シロアムの園スタッフ　メシャックからのメッセージ

メシャックはシロアムの園の管理人であり門番です。シロアム開設2015年からずっと働いています。ですから、シロアムの園の様々な時期や団体の成長を知っているメシャックが、彼の経験を語ってくれました。

「僕は2015年にシロアムの園のことを親戚から聞いて、高校を卒業してすぐにシロアムの園に来ました。その当時、自分が何をすべきかをわかっていたかどうか定かでありません。もちろん、障がいのある子どもたちと関わったこともありませんでしたので、僕にとっては学びの機会で、大変うれしく思っていました。

シロアムの園での毎日は学びの連続で、僕は様々な分野で成長したと思っています。開設当初、スタッフが少なかったので、何でもさせられて多くのことを学びました。そのような様々な機会が僕の心を開いてくれました。園内での研修でも、様々な子どもたちの障がいのことや、子どもたちやご家族をサポートするよい方法を学ぶことができました。

僕は開設から何年もの間、自分の子どもたちにシロアムでの療育受けさせたいと思い、求めて訪ねてくる多くのご家族と出会ってきました。最初の頃は、門をたたく人たちみんながすぐに療育を受けることができ、問題がありませんでしたが、次第に人数が多くなり、シロアムの収容力を超えてしまい、大変になってきました。

ですから、サービスを求めてきても、待機者リストがあることを聞き、自分の愛する子どもたちのために空きがないという現実を知り、悲しそうな顔で帰っていく人たちをたくさん見るようになったのです。ですから、僕の願いは、団体が成長し、もっと多くの人たちのための収容力をもち、僕たちのサービスがコミュニティ全体のためになることです。それから、車いすなどの機材を収容するのに十分なスペースがあり、機材をよい状態に保つことができればと思っています。

また、家賃を払わなくてよくなれば、団体の安全のためにもう少しお金をかけることができるようになることも楽しみにしています。

ですから皆さんにも、僕たちの新しい施設への夢をかなえられるよう、ご協力いただければ嬉しいです。」

MESHACK MUSAMBI-A WORTHWHILE JOURNEY

Meshack Musambi is the caretaker and also the gate keeper at the Garden of Siloam. He has worked at the Garden of Siloam since its inception in 2015, right after graduated from high school. Having seen and experienced the different seasons and growth of the organization, Meshack shares with us his journey.

I came to Siloam in 2015 after hearing about it from a relative. I was not sure I knew what was expected of me back then. I had not worked with special needs children before and therefore this was a learning opportunity for me and I was happy about it.

My days in Siloam became daily opportunities to learn and here I grew in different areas. I learnt how to do many things because back then we did not have many staff members. I was therefore involved in a variety of tasks and this really opened up my mind. Through the in-house training offered at Siloam I got to learn about the conditions of the different children and even the best ways to handle and support the children and their families.

Over the years I have met many families who walk into the garden of Siloam seeking for therapy services for their children. At first it was easy as everyone who came in was enrolled and started attending the sessions. But as time went by and the numbers grew it has become hard due to the high demand as compared to our resources. I therefore get to see the sad faces of those who come in after being informed of the waiting list and the reality of lack of room for their loved ones.

My desire therefore is for the organization to grow in its capacity to handle more people so that the society at large can enjoy the benefits of our work. We also desire to have adequate space for storage of our equipment like wheelchairs which will help in ensuring they are in good condition.

I am also looking forward to a time when we don’t need to pay the monthly rent because maybe these funds can be channeled towards the security of the organization which is important to me.

I therefore appeal to all of you to come onboard and help us realize this dream of having our permanent facility.
